Even if there were no reader, Ivan would write.


Writing is not merely a pleasure for this poet, but a means of survival, as essential to him as air, as water. Though necessary, the craft is a difficult one, not just in its mechanics but in the existential issues it calls forth. These are issues we all must wrestle with: we create and leave a mark on the world; we question the meaningfulness of our contribution, our duty as human beings. In Ivan's poems we find the delicately worded description of our struggle.
