His songs call to mind the sound of rivers, not just the melody of the waters but also the agony of their currents. His music includes childhood images and memories from when he used to play with his little paper boat, music that reminds us of the tunes of the old singers and cowboys of the sertão, but as a multifaceted artist, Ivan makes of his music a bridge that links the most varied styles, so that rock, reggae, ballads, cantorias, and romantic songs become the partners of the poetry that he brings to every melody.
He is the son of artistic parents (Sr. Jovino e Dona Hilda), whom he accompanied from an early age to the rehearsals of plays and choirs that they participated in, in his birthplace of Arcoverde, Pernambuco. As if his parents' influence weren't enough, his grandfather played the fife and one of his uncles played the clarinet and trumpet. This explains his versatility with both erudite and popular styles of music.
Of the150 songs composed during his travels around the world, many have become part of the repertories of various musicians throughout Brazil. In one of his interviews, Ivan Antonio says: "So hungry is my soul for music that I'm no longer able not to sing. I'm throwing myself into the abyss, but I have wings."
EU"S, DA FÚRIA À TERNURA
